Mikee Canaya for the Village Sports Club

Life is a sport. Play it! Nobody knows this as much as Mikee Canaya –a professional swimmer who swims not only to stay physically fit, but to perfect self-discipline. She is one of the Village Sports Club’s new Brand Ambassadors.

“I started swimming at the age of four and started competing at the age of seven. So that makes 13 years of being in the pool.”, she shared. For the most part of these 13 years, she’s chosen to spend it at the Village Sports Club as her love for swimming grew and grew. Aside from the fact that she finds it fun to be in the  water at all times, she found passion in training. “I've been training for Club and school competitions. I want to bring pride not just to my club but also to my school.”

And that she did when she broke the UAAP record for the 50 meters freestyle at the UAAP season 74. To date, Mikee still holds that record. “I train hard. When I want something, I go for it.”

With this kind of drive, why did she choose the Village Sports Club to be her official training ground out of all the sports clubs out there?

“I practically grew up in the Village Sports Club pool.”, she proudly said. “It’s not just because the place is nice and that it has high-end sports facilities and equipment. It’s because the Club has always been supportive.”The Village Sports Club’s  25-meter, 8-lane lap pool is specifically built to enhance every swimmer’s game. This pool has given birth to the Village Sports Club Swim team which competes in the G-League series, National Championship, and Palarong Pambansa.

As a final note, Mikee has this to say: “I put my heart into the sport. It’s important to improve each day and it’s important to love what you’re doing. That’s why my loyalty will always be with the Village Sports Club.”
